Selection & Development

The process of selection and development can be a minefield, which can be avoided if sound processes are used. We can help you to:

  • Select and recruit new staff (recruiting the right person for you)
  • Identify staff for promotion
  • Identify development needs of individuals and teams
  • Manage accelerated development and fast track schemes
  • Design and use competency frameworks for selection and development

Selection processes may involve some of the following:

  • group exercises
  • presentations
  • critical incident/competence based interviewing
  • written exercises and in trays
  • psychometrics – ability/personality
  • simulations

Development processes may involve many of the above processes but for development rather than assessment purposes, plus:

  • 360ºdegree feedback and 1:1 feedback review sessions
  • inventories like Career Anchors, Myers Briggs, Strength Deployment
  • individual and peer reflection and feedback
Creative connexions can design both assessment and development centres for you and provide or design tailored competency frameworks to use as the basis for assessment. These are produced through research, focus groups, questionnaires and behavioural event interviewing.

After the centre, each person will usually be reviewed, a report produced and feedback undertaken on a 1:1 basis.

Creative Connexions has recently supported three GP Practices to successfully recruit GP Partners and Strategic Practice Managers.  This involved researching and designing competencies for both roles, assisting in the design of the advert, shortlisting, and designing and running a selection day.  These events involved a personality questionnaire, a group exercise and a competency-based interview.  Feedback to candidates was then provided, indicating strengths and development areas.
